STEEL BRIDGE TEAM

STEEL BRIDGE TEAM

The Canadian National Steel Bridge Competition (CNSBC) is an annual event that challenges civil engineering students from universities across the country to design, fabricate, and assemble a steel bridge under realistic engineering constraints. Organized by the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering (CSCE) in collaboration with the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction (CISC), the competition aims to provide students with hands-on experience that mirrors real-world design and construction processes. Teams must consider factors such as structural efficiency, fabrication feasibility, construction speed, cost, and aesthetics as they bring their designs to life.

Throughout the academic year, participating teams dedicate months to planning, analyzing, and designing their bridge with the goal of achieving the perfect balance between strength, efficiency, aesthetics, and constructability. Students are responsible for every stage of the project, from developing the design and preparing shop drawings to fabricating and assembling each steel component. The process not only reinforces their understanding of structural design but also gives them hands-on experience in project management, teamwork, and problem-solving.

THIS YEAR

Making their debut at the Canadian National Steel Bridge Competition, taking place from May 14th to 16th, 2026, in Moncton, New Brunswick, the Concordia Steel Bridge Team is stepping into the spotlight with a brand-new theme « Spies ». Representing precision, strategy, and collaboration, this theme captures the essence of the team’s approach as they prepare for their first year of competition. With a dedicated group of civil engineering students, the team’s main goal is to design, fabricate, and assemble their very first steel bridge while building a strong foundation for future participation. Teamwork is our greatest weapon and we are ready to make our mark and prove that no mission is impossible.

Once competition day arrives, months of preparation are put to the ultimate test. Each team must assemble their prefabricated bridge under strict time constraints, showcasing precision, coordination, and control. Judges evaluate every aspect of the structure from weight and stiffness to cost, construction speed, and overall design. The event captures the intensity and teamwork of real-world engineering, as every bolt tightened and every section placed affects the final score. The video beside offers a glimpse of ÉTS in action during their 2024 assembly, highlighting the skill, collaboration, and focus required to succeed on competition day.
